EmmyKate the Great
“EmmyKate the Great” is a comic series centered on EmmyKate — a vivacious, snarky, and clever three-year-old — and her family as they navigate the everyday comedy of family life. The series blends humor and heart, highlighting the wit, wonder, and occasional chaos that come with seeing the world through a child’s eyes.
Concepts
The concept for “EmmyKate the Great” grew out of my own family life. When my children were little, I kept a journal filled with the funny and insightful things they would say — a tattered notebook that eventually inspired this comic series. The characters and their personalities draw directly from those real-life moments, with early concept art developed through a series of studies based on my kids.

Character Development
I started out with a more realistically proportioned design, but as the characters took shape, I found myself leaning toward a style that felt livelier and more expressive. Comics like Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts, and Family Circus reminded me how much charm can come from simplicity, so I shifted to a more animated look that better fit the playful tone of the series.

From Idea to Illustration
My storyboards are quick, rough sketches meant to get ideas out of my head and onto paper. They’re not about detail, but about capturing the flow, pacing, and basic composition of each scene.
